Happy Solstice, Merry Christmas, Kwanzaa, Hannukah, Ramadan, etc... And so we come to the end of another year. A New Year is a time for new beginnings in our culture, and 2008 will be the year for Rowan of the Wood. We're very excited here at Blue Moose Press about the upcoming challenges and success. The official release is only four months away! Authors Christine & Ethan Rose will be attending many more fantasy conventions & book signings, and they will even go on tour in a fuel-efficient, bio-diesel powered RV later in the year.
Christine has started outlining the sequel, as we've already had many requests for it by the relatively few people who have read our premiere novel. We're down to our last box of preview copies, and we'll be making the second print run in January to fulfill the order from the Baker & Taylor warehouse & to stock our distributor in preparation for the April release. If you have read our preview copy and noticed any mistakes, please let us know so we can correct them in the next printing.
Please forward this to your friends and family inviting them to join our newsletter list and to submit their stories, poems, jokes, photos, etc. This is our tenth Newsletter; if you've missed the first nine, you can view them at Archived Newsletters. Keep those submissions coming! We love to read your stories and poems. We've begun work on a Social Media Newsroom, apparently the latest thing in Web 2.0. It's not live yet, but you can get a sneak peak here: rowanofthewood.com/newsroom Speaking of Web 2.0, please remember to link to our blogs/vlog and bookmark them on sites such as Digg, StumbleUpon, De.licio.us, and Techorati. See you in cyberspace... Allison Willows |

Rum Cake Recipe
Once again this holiday, I have had requests for my rum Christmas cake so here goes:
Sample the rum to check quality Take a large bowl, check the rum again to be sure it is of the highest quality.
Repeat. Turn on the electric mixer. Beat one cup of butter in a large fluffy bowl. Add 1 teaspoon of sugar. Beat again.
At this point, it is best to make sure the rum is sstill OK. Try another cup just in case. Turn off the mixerer thingy.
Break 2 legs and add to the bowl and chuck iin the cup of dried fruit. Pick the fruit up off the floor. Mix on the turner.
If the fried druit getas stuck in the beaterers, just pry it loose with a drewscriver. Sample the rum to test for tonsisticity.
Next, sift 2 cups of salt, or something. Check the rum. Now sift the lemon juice and strain the nuts. Add one table.
Add a spoon of sugar, or somefink. Whatever you can find. Greash the oven. Turn the cake tin 360 degrees and try not to fall over.
Don't forget to beat off the turner. Finally, throw the bowl through the window. Finish the rum and wipe the counter with the cat.
Now have yourself a little Cherry Christmas!
They say that once upon a time, there lived a man who wanted to achieve everything he was capable of achieving. He was obsessed with this desire. He ate, slept, and walked with one and only dream: to die, having accomplished every single thing he was able to accomplish.
There were so many things he could do. He felt like the whole world could be his, if he only set his mind to it. At times, he was even horrified by the powers hiding in his mind and heart. He was certain—in fact—he knew that his potential had no limits. He knew that he could accumulate power that would dwarf the power of ancient kings; he knew that he could write books that would shake the minds of generations to come; he knew that he could invent things that would forever change the lives of millions of people. He lived, constantly feeling the power within—and that power knew no bounds.
There was only one obstacle: having such a potential, but only one life, he had to make a choice. He had to decide where to apply all of his enormous abilities. Making that decision was extremely hard, for any choice meant cutting off some future achievements. And so in the meantime, he went to school, graduated, found a respectable well-paid job, married, and bred children. And he spent every minute of his spare time trying to decide where he should apply all his might. Even though he was not interested in applying it to his work, his power was impossible to hide. He was successful in everything he touched, and he earned great respect of the people who worked with him. And all the while, he thought to himself:...
Read The Rest of "The Man Who Acheived Everything He Could" The Darkness Within I was so used to seeing the images of red and orange hovering around me. The extreme heat and warmth made me feel hopeless and tired. There was a point when I felt as if I should just give in and succumb to my surroundings; I felt like I should stay still, take a nap, and sleep to my death.
But the noise of the raging fire wouldn't allow me to do so. The noise of the animals as they screamed in terror and pain wouldn't allow me to do so. I even tried to plug my ears but I could not escape the chaos or confusion of the moment. l could not hide from the flames, nor the cries of the animals. Those poor creatures were doomed just as I was.
Yet, it was my inability to sleep that perhaps saved my life...
